Walking on Dartmoor

Dartmoor is a wonderfull place to explore - but please be carefull!! Weather can change very quickly, and paths are often not well defined. Always take precautions and go prepared. This includes Map, Compass and Whistle - The mists can descend very quickly. Always take suitable clothing, including waterproofs. Try on-line stores such as Cotswold Outdoor or Field & Trek to make sure you are prepared.

Easy Walks

A great place to start your walk is from Shipley Bridge. A free carpark, and the ease of access makes it a popular spot throughout the year to start a family stroll. WC's are available in the Car Park, and in summer an Ice-Cream Van is normally popular with the children!!

Avon Dam - Easy

Start at Shipley Bridge and follow the single track access road up through the valley. This walk is suitable for all, is a gentle slope up a single lane private road (no traffik) and is suitable for children, pushchairs and bikes

A little bit furthur up the feeder river there is the ancient "clapper bridge" cross this and then climb up to the top of the moor and the Eastern Barrow, before returning back down to Shipley Bridge
